agreed, that's pretty sleazy, and this is still when everyone is in the "courting" stage of the job, can't see it getting better, might have done you a favor

Depends. Individual business owner or a corporate structure? My scenario came when I hated my current employer and the new employer was offering a much better work/life balance. Knowing it was a fairly large corporation with stability I took the jump. We are up for annual raises and I didy part to earn a pretty decent raise. They took care of me. The boss was very open and honest with me during the hiring process so I took a leap of faith. It has paid off and been the best decision of my life.
