I also own a pair of Adidas and Brooks for running. I didn't realize my New Balance weren't cool. Evidentially the fashion Mecca that isTurkey Creek is a little ahead of me.

WTF?
I know more runners who wear New Balance than any other brand of running shoe. And it has nothing to do with "cool."
