He was at best a top 15 QB...probably closer to top 20.

But, he made few mistakes and was a true game manager.

Vastly overshadowed by the insane talent at QB at that time. No matter who we had, we weren't going to outgun SF in the NFC Western Division, and the only times we beat them it was all defense. Also, you looked around the league and you had Troy Aikman, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Warren Moon, John Elway. A lot of that temperament is tied to the futility of the situation. For what it's worth though, I think he was a pretty good QB and, to repeat the above statement, a good game manager that competed by reducing his errors.
