I absolutely know how much is funded through private donations. It doesn't matter. Without LSU, a state funded institution, LSU athletics WOULD NOT EXIST. End of story. I don't care if it's a net positive for university, it is a part of the university and therefore owes at least some allegiance to do what's best for Baton Rouge and Louisiana.

It does matter. I agree with what you're saying, and wish it was the case, but it's an extremely idealistic way of looking at it. LSU Sports are a business.
