I really believe California is one of the best places in the world. There are some major negatives that I wish could be fixed (politics and cost) but the state is gorgeous, and there is so much to do within a day's drive. I can't speak to SLO because I haven't been, but LA, San Fran, and San Diego are all awesome. You are also close to Vegas, Sequoia, a few ski and board parks, and the Grand Canyon.

However, I'm not sure I would live out here if I was still in business like I used to be. Jobs out here are extremely tough to find. But since you have one go for it. You'll love it. Just don't stay in the middle class out here for long. It's better to be poor or rich.
