First, I have to agree that using the pigeons was really bad.
Next, I agree with a lot of you that pushing "the pattern" seemed like they wanted the show to go one way and then changed the whole thing later on.
Also agree that alternate John would have been good to bring him back into the series after his character plays such a strange but significant part in the early episodes.
I just wanted to recognize that the first moment of sexual tension happened near the end of "The Cure" when Peter and Olivia have their little moment outside of Peters hotel room.
This moment has me pleading for Feauxlivia so hard.

I'm not sure how much this played a role in John Scott's role in the show, but he did get the lead in a short lived action/spy series IIRC. Maybe he left the show rather than was written out.

Yeah, I thought the same thing watching it. It's pretty awesome how quickly Liv gets over John and now seems to want to get all up on Peter's jammy.
Seems like the discussion is down this week, and it makes me wonder how many people watched the episodes for this week. But it could also be partly due to the nature of the episodes...even though these episodes are enjoyable, they are still very much monster of the week, as we alluded to earlier in the thread. So outside of September and Massive Dynamic, there aren't really a whole lot of things (like overarching plot things) to discuss as of yet.
Is the three-episode-a-week assignment still cool for everybody? Do we need to push it back to two? Three is working fine for me so far..

While the theme of the show did change, the entirety of season 4 is too answer the "why" of season 1.
Basically the pattern is designed to draw out a cortexiphan kid, give them a reason to begin getting stronger again, and then use that strength to create the new world. The pattern was just weak spots created, while some if the pattern is random, by drawing out the cortexiphan kids the bell of the ball can then use then to punch holes into the fabric of reality to create his utopian world. The weird experiences were to create his utopian race once he got there, which were all created using the soft spots to begin with
If you remember from season 4 it shows all of the experiments from season 1 aboard his "ark" at the end
