On the menu this week:

Series finale, season five, and overall series discussion.

It's over.

If you don't have time to watch the episodes, check out the Fringepedia pages for each episode...they do a great job of detailing and explaining everything that happens in the episode. Here it is for this week's episode:

Discussion on this episode due to start . Enjoy the show.

CURRENT DISCUSSION

Episode discussion begins on ~page 60 for the following episodes:

Series finale: "An Enemy of Fate" - All five of the primary Fringe Division members survive into 2036 and face-off against the invading Observers in a complex and extraordinary battle to manipulate the fate of mankind by altering future events, and deflecting history away from the path to total oppression.

Fringepedia for the finale:

An Enemy of Fate

Note to people who haven't seen the series:
Please feel free to join in at any time, but know that there will be spoilerish things discussed since this is a REWATCH. So while you may not get too many things spoiled on you for the most part, eventually the discussion will begin to tie in with future happenings on the show. So be prepared for that. However, I actually think this could be a really cool way to experience the series for the first time, so you're more than welcome to participate.

Original post:

So I've mentioned this several times for a while now, and it seems to have interested some. I'm thinking we could sort of "assign" 3-4 episodes a week (or whatever number works for the majority) and keep a running discussion going in this thread as the group navigates the series.

Thoughts? I need input on:

- How many episodes per viewing period
- Length of viewing period (one week is the easiest I think, but would it start on Sunday/Monday/etc?)
- How many would be interested
- Discussion format suggestions (discuss all 3-4 at once, an episode at a time, what..?)
- etc. (anything else you can think of?)

People in for this:
Cocomo
wish i was tebow
SouthofSouth
Fearthehat0307
Bryon Bojengles III
BaddestAndvari
Freauxzen (already rewatched; confirmed for discussion)
TigerMyth (potentially)
TigerinATL (partial participation because he's married and whipped)
UMRealist
Gugich
LSULEFTY
angryslugs
TH03
WhistlinDixie15
iluvdatiger (first time watcher)
catholictigerfan

Others who have expressed interest in doing this:
RicketyCricket
LewDawg
yurintrouble
gjackx (may be in)
BluegrassBelle (first time watcher)
jamsmiley

Anybody else who would want to is welcome. I'll try to keep a list here.

I know there have been several "I'm watching Fringe" threads in the last few weeks/months, so people like that would likely not want to rewatch it again so quickly, but who knows. And even still, they can always jump in on the discussion and contribute that way since it's still relatively fresh in their minds.

Anyway, this is the official thread to see what kind of interest there would be in actually doing this and sticking with it...I kinda feel like it would suck if there were only like 3 or 4 of us participating.

As for viewability:
quote:

Per a quick Google search, Fringe is on Netflix.

It also seems to be on Amazon Prime.

Also on Hulu Plus I believe (though possibly not season five yet).

And of course, you can always just buy the DVDs.

All I wanna know is....who's coming with me?

I say 4 per week is a good number. I don't think it's too many where people wouldn't be able to keep up. Discussion of all at once would be my preference.

I'm in.

I think 3-4 episodes a week discussed all at once, maybe on a Sunday night, would be ideal.

I think I'm gonna make a sig pic with Olivia wearing a shirt that says "Mrs. Whistlindixie"

She's real nice

I'm guessing when it comes to the discussion because we have some first timers we should avoid spoilers?

my comments on the next 3 episodes up for discussion

#10 very good episode and we finally start to get into things that MATTER on the show for the long run. DRJ as I have said before plays a large role in the show much later in the season. Even after he is killed they have to fight him again later. I'll leave out more details so that people who haven't seen the show won't be to spoiled, but people who have watched it know exactly what I'm talking about. It was a very good episode to IMO and focused around a plot line developing throughout multiple espiodes instead of just focusing on one plot line with only minor connections to other episodes.

#11 is the same way it builds off the last episode where Oliva is captured.

Now here we can begin some discussion, I'm not sure if it is made clear but do you think that they were putting cortexiphan in her for latter plans. If you remember part of DRJ more extensive plan was to tap into Olivia's abilities given to her by cortexiphan. It seems the effects of cortexiphan aren't as effective if not none at all if they go long periods of time without using it. Now I'm not sure how long it stays around if not for all time, but my guess is that DRJ is giving Olivia cortexiphan to "activate" her for his bigger plans

also the guy auditing fringe is an A-hole, he seems like a mole but I can't remember.

#12 like many times in season 1 they break off from the developing plot that will have an impact on the rest of the show. It was a decent episode but could have been better.

I'm guessing now that #10 and #11 have a big impact on the show through multiple seasons I'm guessing discussion will pick up some. (I hope)

a-little late but here are my thoughts on each episode.

Episode 16: These were not one of my favorite episodes not because it was poorly done I liked how it was done, but I've never been good with scary stuff and this episode has a little bit of that. Watching someone walk through the woods knowing they are about to be attacked by the monster. Doesn't settle to well with me.

Episode 17: This is where they really begin to work towards the final episode and future episodes, we meet our first cortexifan patient outside of olive. So it was exciting to meet Nick who will play a major role in the future. Episode was very good.

Episode 18: more ZFT stuff is great and it is a very good episode. One of my favorite part of the episodes is when Peter is looking for the women they are all looking for using a thermal imaging sensor and someone comes up to him what is that. "its a (name of thingy) and it tells me if someone is hot, and your hot, but your not who we are looking for" But again great episode really setting up the last couple episodes where ZFT is really getting involved.

For the next couple episodes I'm going to pay attention to how William Bell is involved, while I think the show a lot of times tries to paint him as a good guy I think he is in fact behind ZFT but does it in a way that is hard to tell if he in fact is behind it.

so how should we approach episode #11 for next week. I think it was an episode filmed for season 1 that never aired so they did a special after #10.

If you watch it not knowing that it wasn't a re-air, you would say; what, Charlie is alive again?

catching up from last week to episode 7 this week. brief comment on each episode.

sorry for not commenting,, I'll try to be better this week. tough time of year for me exams next week had 2 papers due int eh last couple weeks. After next Wednesday I'm free for a few weeks.

Episode 4

This was a great episode. They always seem to be surrounding peter. I'm so glad that peterless stuff only lasted 4 episodes. The show wasn't the same without peter, it's hard to take out a key ingredient of a show and expect the same success.

Episode 5
Shape Shifters are back and better then ever scary. Now Myth doesn't have the complaining about why don't they just test their blood. I'm interested to see how this all plays out in the future.

Episode 6
This was also a very good episode and peter is getting more and more involved. I still don't like Walter having to stay in the lab all the time.

Episode 7

I didn't like this episode as much, I don't know why it just wasn't as interesting. An invisible guy walking around killing people, trying to pigment himself. That wasn't that cool of a monster of the week. Apparently his pigmenting himself causes him to die eventually? Just didn't like the episode that much. Interesting concept but just boring.

more to come later today, I think.
