I finished S1 last night. Once I started I couldn't stop

I'm through two of the three. I forgot how quickly they got into the whole "observer" thing on the show. I mean, September is a big deal already in episode four.
I'll either watch the next one tonight or tomorrow during the day. Interested to see the conversation this week. I'm glad we're doing this...I forgot how much I liked this show, especially in the beginning.

Got to 9 before I realized I'd gone a bit too far.
I just don't have time to sit down and watch episode after episode. I may through 5 by Monday and finish that if I get enough time.

bump let the second round of discussions begin.

Maybe I need to wait until I finish season 1 and refresh my memory, but isn't all this John Scott stuff just a dead end that quietly goes away? Also, I understand why Charlie didn't fit in long term, but he was a really likable character.

Seems like you're right, but I don't exactly remember.

This is one of the things I'm looking forward to the most...I remember being hella confused by what happened to Charlie in the first run when the show aired on TV. So I'm pumped about being able to settle that in my mind and not be confused this time around.
Also, I forgot how much they drove home "the pattern" early on in the show. That seems to be the basic underlying plot of the show (September and the pattern).

Anyone find the bird chase thing in episode 5 a little weak. One of the worst moments of the series through 5 IMO

The pattern is resolved in season 4 when we finally see why / who John Scott was working for

I haven't noticed anything about September. What am I missing?
Posted on 6/16/14 at 3:26 pm to iluvdatiger
You're not missing anything...that's just the Observer's name. I just had forgotten how early on he was focused on in the show.

So are you just a scifi savant who is misusing his photographic memory, or do you research this stuff on fan sites?

a lot of the themes and such they are introducing early in this show didn't last that long. I never remember the observers having to eat like that later in the series. John Scott such a huge part of the first half of season 1 is forgotten by season 2. They could have easily made a alternate John, but once his role in the season 1 plot he didn't come back.
Another thing if the pattern is because of the hole made between the universes, why are there attacks? How does a girl with capsules in her blood and people used them to kill people relate to the pattern? I know they answer what causes it but there seems to be some questions that aren't answered.

First, I have to agree that using the pigeons was really bad.
Next, I agree with a lot of you that pushing "the pattern" seemed like they wanted the show to go one way and then changed the whole thing later on.
Also agree that alternate John would have been good to bring him back into the series after his character plays such a strange but significant part in the early episodes.
I just wanted to recognize that the first moment of sexual tension happened near the end of "The Cure" when Peter and Olivia have their little moment outside of Peters hotel room.
This moment has me pleading for Feauxlivia so hard.

I'm not sure how much this played a role in John Scott's role in the show, but he did get the lead in a short lived action/spy series IIRC. Maybe he left the show rather than was written out.

I think that is a strong possibility.
Another thought:
I think Fringe did a really good job of gradually bringing Walter back to reality also. In those first few episodes he was hilarious, but you couldn't really take him seriously. I think gradually thru the first 6 episodes you little by little see him refind his mind. There are still little things that make you wonder but that is what keeps you on your toes.

Yeah, I thought the same thing watching it. It's pretty awesome how quickly Liv gets over John and now seems to want to get all up on Peter's jammy.
Seems like the discussion is down this week, and it makes me wonder how many people watched the episodes for this week. But it could also be partly due to the nature of the episodes...even though these episodes are enjoyable, they are still very much monster of the week, as we alluded to earlier in the thread. So outside of September and Massive Dynamic, there aren't really a whole lot of things (like overarching plot things) to discuss as of yet.
Is the three-episode-a-week assignment still cool for everybody? Do we need to push it back to two? Three is working fine for me so far..
