I use a Synology NAS with some IP cameras (mostly d-link). I went with this setup b/c I already had the Synology, and I just needed to buy some licenses for the cameras. I have a couple PoE cameras and a couple wireless cameras that just needed a power source.
I've got a synology and have been looking for something to work with this. Any reccomendations on a decent IP camera? Something that works well in low light/night vision and PoE is probably preferable.

I'd look at a Dahua camera. They usually make cameras and rebrand them for other companies but you can buy 'Dahua' branded cameras online as well. I got the suggestion from the Synology support forum for Surveillance Station (SS). They are inexpensive and decent quality cameras. They are officially supported cameras for SS which means you don't have to jump through hoops to get them working, and they won't chew up a lot of your CPU like other cameras setup using ONVIF.
The D-link cameras are very easy to setup and for the most part I am happy with them. 2 of them require about a monthly reboot. I bought them before Synology added support for the Dahua cameras in February. I probably would have still bought some of the d-link cameras b/c the wireless ones are easy to put anywhere I had an outlet.
Here is a list of my cameras which are all supported by synology.
Dahua HD 1080P PoE LINK
D-Link DCS-2310L POE/Outdoor LINK
D-Link DCS-2332L Wireless Outdoor LINK
D-Link Wireless 942L LINK (I have 2 of these)
D-Link DCS-932L Wireless Indoor LINK
I don't know if you've done any reading on it, but the surveillance system can be a CPU hog if it is handling the motion detection. I prefer the way Synology handles the motion detection better than the way my cameras do so I upgraded my nas from a DS211j to a DS214+. I went from 99% CPU usage all the time to about 25%.
Also, the Synology only gives you one free camera license with the device. You have to buy each one after that for about $50 each.
