but I seriously have to question ones baseball knowledge if they think Starlin Castro plays bad defense. He's no Ozzie Smith now, but to say he is bad at defense is silly. Hell, the last time I watched the Cubs on ESPN Rick Sutcliffe and the other announcer (Boone?) were saying he was one of the top defensive SS in MLB.

Eh, I certainly don't think he's that bad defensively, but he's certainly not elite, and most likely on the wrong side of average when it comes to defense...but, i think, he easily makes up for that with his bat. As for Sut and Boone, i didn't hear it, i'm assuming sut was drunk as shite and blowing smoke about the cubs and boone was just going along with it because why the hell not. Because top defensive SS in the MLB...go home guys you're drunk.

I think it was posted earlier, but Albert Almora homered in both games of the doubleheader yesterday.

Kris Bryant went 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 K's.

Javi Baez hit his 14th HR and didn't K (he's been not K-ing a lot lately).

Jorge Soler went 3 for 4 with a double and HR.***

Rob Zastryzny went 3 IP and K'd 5; only gave up one hit.

Addison Russell K'd twice and finished 0 for 4.

Dan Straily gave up 4 runs all on a Kris Bryant error. He pitched 5 IP.

A nice little opener of the Minor Leauge Daily on Bleacher Nation on Billy McKinney, the OF prospect in the Samardzija trade.

***It is imperative that Jorge Soler stay healthy thru the end of the year. All this man does is destroy baseballs. Stay on the field, get to Chicago in September (maybe, for AB's), and let's get that career going.

His defense isn't elite, I agree. But really, neither was Jeter's defense. And so far this year, neither is Hanley, Asdrubal, Jean Segura, Brandon Crawford, Yunel Escobar, Ian Desmond, etc. This is if you are going by UZR or UZR/150.

Since he joined the league, he's had the most hits, & most doubles of any SS. His power is increasing, and should project to around a 20-22 HR SS. He doesn't walk a lot, and with that, his OBP will never go much higher than his BA...which you can settle with if he's hitting around .300, which he typically does (last year being the outlier).

He also has the most errors since joining the league, and his probability to commit an error compared to the league average is absolutely the worst in the league, by a lot. However, his fielding % is improving year by year, and his total errors this year project to be his lowest so far in hist short career.

The guy has flaws. But I mean, he's a 3X all star and he just turned 24. He's a good player, and is currently playing like 2X his current salary. If he is being shopped, the reward should be great, if not phenomenal.
