Why hasn't the NRA endorsed mental health screens for gun owners?

I would think that an organization that prides itself in standing up for legal gun owners would make this a priority to help prevent the crazies from getting guns and harming people.

Has the ACLU endorsed mental health screening for liberals over the first amendment?

Sure, why not place another restriction on a constitutional right. Especially one that could never possibly used in a biased manner.

Why would they? A better question would be, why doent the dozen or so organizations that cry about violence address the causes of violence, rather than the tools?

Because they can't remove the government and organizations like the NRA from power without them resorting to violence. Nowhere in the USC is the private ownership of guns mentioned. It's misinterpreted by the USSC.

Because you shouldn't need a mental health screen to use a Constitutionally protected right.

If that's the case why do we need IDs, insurance, etc.? Not mentioned in USC. It should when the right gives mentally unstable people the access to kill.

I don't understand why people are so eager to give up the ability to own guns simply for a perceived notion of safety.

OP does it piss you off that bad when gun control groups keep falling flat on their faces? Get over it, this is one issue the left won't win.

The 2nd amendment doesn't require that you buy a gun. It just gives you the option.

Also, there are a large number of things that give mentally unstable people the ability to kill.

Consider Boston bombing as an example.

Would Nancy Pelosi not be allowed a firearm? She is obviously batshit crazy.

Would Obama's malignant narcissism, which is a mental disorder, prevent him from owning a firearm?

...the...Right...of...the...PEOPLE...to...keep...and...bear...arms...shall...not...be...infringed...

Now I know that's tough for some of you - that amendment is between one protecting speech/religion and another one prohibiting quartering soldiers in private homes -

What kind of sense does it make to put an amendment - in a Bill of Rights - that protects the right of the government to maintain an armed body of men? When it uses the word "people" unambiguously?

Why do you think the 2nd amendment even exists? Serious question.

Should we have a mental screening to make sure voters have enough sense to cast a ballot? Hell, most places you can't even make people prove who they are to do so.
Should you have to have proof you are a US Citizen to access social services in this country?
Screenings and testings have been ruled out of bounds in matters that would affect Democrat constituencies, but let's go after the gun owners.
Law abiding citizens that own guns. Don't the gun grabbers realize that the criminals won't be giving up theirs? Sure they do.
This recent mass killing in California. Four of the victims were stabbings. Any outcries for knife control? Those victims are just as dead.
The recent Benghazi uproar, case in point.Demos were in a frenzy howling about the GOP using the unfortunate deaths of the victims to raise money and make political points. Now what have the Democrats done with the California murders? Every time something happens they dust off gun laws.
