You got 2 choices
Build a kennel for the dog or bring it in the house and crate train it. Every retriever I've ever had have been hell on a yard. They spend so much time with you that they get separation anxiety had tear stuff up. Lastly bring that dog in the house and make it a part of the family. Not gonna effect how he retrieves one bit. He's gonna make your life easier during duck season....make his easier during the off season.

Get you a shock collar. Sit and watch him from a window and light his arse up when he digs for a few weeks.

Just get a pirogue to get them ducks let the dog sleep in your bed haha
