Most of Bertman's career was w/the old 6 team regionals befofe the super regionals were introduced. 3 games the 1st day , & I think starting times were about 1, 5 and 9pm @ most sites. Most all host schools that had the lights, started the late slot. Texas was the only host school to take the 5pm slot. Good idea for fans & team. I think LSU played a game @ midnight due to weather/extra innings of earlier game. Not only was the team worn out the next day , we lost our home field advantage because most of our fans left. lol During the 90's other host teams around the country had games delayed til the next day, turning their advantage to a great disadvantage!
I think the NCAA has a rule about starting games before midnight. Most home teams started playing during the day. This carried over when we went to the 4 team regional/super format in , I believe it was 1999!

I repeat: The change was made by Bertman because it was smart, and it made the teams seeded below us deal w/the weather (exacerbated by extra inning games}!!
