This movie was a bit of a clusterfrick in parts that you really needed to read the comics to follow.
This movie didn't follow any of the comics. It took the basic plot from the Days of Future Past story, but that's about it. You needed to see the previous three X-Men movies to get the full effect. Reading the comics wouldn't help.
(Except for the Easter egg after the credits.)

Saw this last night:
1. Overall pretty good
2. Had its funny moments (some unintentional resulting from poorly delivered lines - odd timing of certain actions on screen - editing)
3. The plot was
somewhat convoluted but adequate considering the time traveling bit. There were obvious plot holes that accompany introducing overpowered characters (First, Quicksilver "Peter Petrelli'ed" the story basically. Second, if Mystique's DNA is so powerful the possibilities of a true "Peter Petrelli" threat will always loom. Third, time travel corrections will forever be a threat in this universe which makes me less invested in any future story - the "Hiro" effect)
4. The action/fights.- aside from key moments was average considering the genre - but that's how Singer rolls
5. The material was heavier/darker - teetering at times on melodramatic - but Singer tends to be melodramatic at times
Overall the movie was good, met my expectations, but was flawed.
