Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't benson want a new stadium pre Katrina and was willing to leave n.o. If he didn't get it?
Yeah, the state basically gave him an office building and a new superdome instead, and he shut up about that for the time being.
While I dig most of the improvements, am I the only one who hates how they cut off access from the Hyatt to the Superdome completely? I used to like cutting through there. I wish they had incorporated that feature into the Championship Square deal. Oh well.

The Hyatt was essentially non-existent when that construction was done, and the New Orleans Center mall was non-existent (then was ultimately included in the sale of then-Dominion Tower).
I agree, though, that incorporating some elevated sections along the borders of Champions Square connecting the former New Orleans Center to the Superdome entrance ramps would have been a good longer-term solution. The Entergy building / One Poydras Plaza also connects through the Hyatt and into the NO Center area, and some people coming from across Loyola could be moved through that space as well.

That was years later because the state owed money
And that office was abandoned, rotting, and a Katrina eye sore
