I'm completely guessing, but perhaps their security also piggybacks on the security for each individual account login that you have. Also, to my knowledge, they only gather the information, rather than give you any "editing" authority. I don't believe you can do any transactions through their interface, but I could be wrong.

i believe i read that mint stores your password and info within the same website that many of the top banks use for their encryption....so if they could get to your mint password, they could also get to a lot of other, maybe even more attractive ones

You are correct. You can't conduct transactions through Mint.
