Candid interview with Dan Rather.
If it's the case that all news is highly controlled, manipulated, and corrupt to the core then accepting that notion should result in a paradigm shift to the way you perceive this reality.
Select quotes from the interview below.
----------------
Free and fearfully independent free press is the red beating heart of democracy
Media's responsibility is to public interest, that has changed to corporate and government interest.
What's happened in the banking industry, housing, health care, the same thing has happened in news. Today any talk of operating news as a public trust has all but disappeared.
Very big business is in bed with big power in Washington, for their mutual interest, not the public interest.
Consolidation has reached a point that no more than six, by my count four of these large conglomerates control more than 80% of all media. The leaders of these large corporations have business that they want out of the powers in Washington whether it's republicans or democrats and vice versa. This is a violation of the public trust.
If you want to keep your job, if you want to stay in good standing you stay away from certain areas.
The president of CBS's news division was taking direction on how to cover the story by the chief lobbyist of the corporation being covered.
When you have the two most powerful interests in the country, the federal government on one hand and the largest corporations on the other working in concert to decide what the public will see and how they'll see it it is very difficult for the public to perceive that that's happening.

Clearly it's not.
This board is full of people taking news stories seriously, as if they're legitimate.

So, he's saying that there is a bias?
And, the fact that both Big Business and the Federal Government is supportive of the expanse of government and are both socially liberal - or for whatever increases profit - it is understandable why the news leans Left. All of that doesn't even take into account the training of the journalists in liberal journalism schools and the reinforcement of Leftist/Progressive thought amongst cultural elites.
Any idea of objectivity in news reporting is long gone and has been for several decades now. If there is an American unaware of that, they are a moron.

That was like giving you a piece of pizza, watching you throw it on the ground, knowing that you think that's what you were supposed to do with it.

I don't know if Dan Rather is out of touch with reality or just a delusional liberal true believer or the ultimate troll.
No doubt banks lobbied hard for liberals in Washington to force banks to extend credit to unqualified borrows violating time tested lending rules/practices leading to a financial collapse.
And no doubt, corporate America lobbied hard for Obama to bad-mouth big business throughout his campaign and tenure in the Whitehouse. And I'm quit sure they lobbied extra hard for Obamacare to be passed creating an uncertain business environment leading to the layoff of millions of employees and underemployment for millions more.
And for sure, the oil industry encouraged Obama's ongoing delay of the Keystone Pipeline.
Yea, liberals would love for you to think that corporate America are the bad guys and pulling all the strings.
The truth is the only strings that get pulled are the ones that benefit Obama, Harry Reid and the rest of the liberal crony socialists taking advantage of capitalism when it lines their pockets and furthers their liberal agenda.

Don't be stupid, both sides try to manipulate the media! If you can't see that you should just stop voting. Dan Rather isn't calling out any party, he is calling out Washington and the large corporations that control it.

So.....
This Titan of journalism has sent down the word from Mount Pious that a dominant media that advocates for one side of the political spectrum might be harmful?
Well, holy shite.
I never considered that.

This is the same Dan Rather who knowingly used fabricated evidence on national t.v. to futher his own political agenda right? This lowlife and his ilk on both sides are the problem and I could care less what the lying pos thinks. And by the way he does not have the credibility to call anyone out.

Your problem, and that of many on this board, is a lack of understanding of what "objectivity" means, or what is even possible or desirable, when it comes to journalism.

I think that is the point, he is now an old man and wants to call out the system. Don't worry about what this one man may have done and instead listen to the truth he is telling now that he has nothing to lose.

It should be obvious to anyone that can think for themselves and doesn't bow down to one of the two parties we have.
