I'm an Astros fan but Altuve has become a little overrated because of his size and the fact everyone around him sucks for the most part. He's a good player but doesn't belong in the same conversation as some of the players mentioned in the serious posts in this thread IMO

Jason Kipnis HAS to be up there.

Holy Ballz that's a bad list
Phillips is probably #1. Uggla/Utley don't belong anywhere near this
the dude hits like 25 to 30 home runs a year...he is definitely top 5
So defense (which should be mentioned first when talking about middle infielders), OBP, K rate, BB rate, base-running ability, double play ability, and overall athleticism are outweighed by HRs?
Is Mark Reynolds one of the top 5 3B in the game?

Neil Walker needs to be in the conversation. And honestly, Uggla may not even be in the top 30 for overall 2B play. There are AAA 2B that some clubs would rather.

If this thread turns into an argument about the value of batting average vs OBP I'm logging off permanently

Nah. He is middle of the pack and declining. Utley is much better. He plays good defense but (prepare to log off) has no on base skills. There is a reason the Reds were trying to dump him and no one would take him.

i agree the reds are still trying to dump him..
he is still a hell of a second baseman and top 5

Yikes.
Phillips is maybe top 10. He is fun to watch with the glove though.

Dozier is making an argument, at least this year, for consideration for the 5th spot.
First guy to reach double figures in both HRs and steals, leads the AL in runs scored-- and while playing for a rather terrible offensive team, no less. Weak spot is hitting for average
