They're not withholding anything. You want to use their product you stick with them. You don't it no longer works. Tough shite. It's pretty simple.
The people in the suit don't want to use iMessage anymore. They want to use the text feature they are paying their provider for on the non-Apple phone they chose to buy. Apple is preventing that, thus the lawsuit. And this is a big deal for businesses that rely on text messages for business communication.
