They will be out collecting signatures again this weekend. They aren't going anywhere.
If the SG effort is wanted so bad by so many people then why haven't they been able to get the required number of signatures yet? If it's not just a small grassroots movement, then where are the signatures?
Has this question been answered yet?

Rainey is the one who said the annex may invalidate the petition. Now he said it probably wont. You think the metro council did this to stop the vote based solely on something Rainey said and has now recanted.
And if you think the metro council cares what Rainey says.......

It takes time to get the signatures, and it takes time for people to become engaged/informed. The St.George petitioners get hundreds of suugnatures every week. Until such time as the signatures stop coming in, the arguments like yours are moot.

The point is, you wouldn't even think that the annex was to stop the vote without Rainey's lie. There is NOTHING to show that the council did this to invalidate the petition. They did it to secure the tax revenue.

Technically you didn't 'say' it. But you did write it. I guess I'd better be more specific before you claim you didn't write it: you did enter it into some type of electronic device that was connected to the internet and displayed on this board. Let's see if you can parse those words.....
Do you know how I know you know you're losing the argument?
It's because you no longer debate substance, merely form. This entire thread is filled with you doing that.

Is it a moral victory of some kind for you if you can believe any of the businesses that were annexed did not initiate the contact with the city? Are you that desperate now?
Huh? I think this is funny because of the "outrage" shown this very morning. I don't even care that Kip lied. That's not the point at all. The hypocrisy of you and Mickey is what's funny.
I'll go even further. Kip was smart to approach the MOL and others. If St. George leaders had been successful in that attempt, it could have changed the entire landscape.

Informed by the Spokesman of SG? Rainey? Informed about the affects of annexation will have on their petition?
Yeah, they are really getting informed

There is nothing that I think that is because of Rainey. You have no idea how my opinions are formed....

Peggy Gonzales was probably the worst of that group.
Here is a comment from the 'comments' section in the Advocate's article on the annexation meeting last night:
quote:
At Better Together, we have made it a practice to refrain from calling into question the motives or intentions of the St. George proponents. It is a practice we will continue.
There also are moments, however, when accountability demands precision and honesty.
For the St. George leadership to argue in every possible venue over the last two weeks that the annexations would invalidate the St. George petition; to hold that position right through a council vote on those annexations, with dozens of speakers denouncing the Council in the strongest possible terms for supposedly interfering with the petition process; to do all this, and then turn around immediately after the vote and admit that “after meeting with out legal team over the last several days, we now believe this does not invalidate our petition."
This reflects what can only be considered duplicity and a basic lack of integrity.
The St. George leadership pretended to believe that the annexations would interfere with the petition, merely to influence the outcome of the vote in their favor, and then admitted immediately afterward that they were being dishonest simply as an attempt to gain a favorable outcome.
We do not believe the majority of the St. George supporters, who probably were left in the dark, are responsible for the actions of their leadership on this matter.
But that leadership owes an apology to every Council Member and every citizen of our City-Parish.

You have no idea how little Rainey is actually involved. He's merely a talking head.

I'll answer your question using myself as an example. I support SG because I am philosophically in favor of more localized gov't and think it will lead to better schools. My kids are in private school, so I don't have the same motivation as SG residents with kids in public schools. I signed the petition a few month ago because I happened to be driving by one of the signing locations. My wife just signed the petition a couple of days ago because we received a petition in the mail, and that was the first time she had the chance to do so without seeking out a signing location.

You're losing.
Or, should I just go ahead and say it.....you've lost.

Is it hypocrisy to be more bothered with lies that have a greater impact than lies that don't?
Rainey's lie caused such an uproar around the entire area and it was totally used purposefully to incite anger towards the metro council and Kip.
Kip's lie was said after a vote on annexation had already occurred and didn't have any impact anyway. Regardless of who approached who, the mall and hospital had to request the deal.

Isn't he a political consultant and the Spokesperson for the SG movement? What he says in public has an impact. I don't know why you keep denying that.

Of course he has an impact. I said specifically you have no idea how little he is involved. Yes, he pops up on TV&radio. However, he is not involved in the day to day operations, nor is he a "decision maker". Hell he wasn't even at the public forum last week.

Partly because the SG tax estimates fluctuate more than the NASDAQ.

Then you are a small grassroots movement until you get enough. You can say you guys are a large movement all you want but when there is 70000 residents and you can't get 25% of them to prove it in less than, how ever long it's been since the petitions started, your argument is the one that is actually "moot".
You guys have been petitioning for a very long time. So long that everyone who lives over here is well aware of what's going on. People have got to see the fact that there really isn't enough support for SG by now.

Then why are letting this dude be y'all's spokesperson. Isn't that kinda...I dunno...dumb?

We are grassroots. We have extremely limited funds and rely on volunteers. Based on our signature acquisition rate and current count, your argument about lack of support is completely unfounded....and wrong.
