heard something the other day I did not realize. Players don't get paid year round but only during the season as far as their salary. Bill King was talking about how many pro players are broke come the end of summer.

This ain't the OT bro.
How many recent college grads show up in a new city with $100K in hand, plus a job that pays $80K net?
Hell, how many recent college grads GROSS $80K?
No one is saying he's rich, but he's better off than most provided he's smart about it.

Yea if you watch the 30 for 30 Broke, you'll see these guys essentially live paycheck to paycheck when they act like knuckle heads. And also if you use you're head when you make a half a million a year, you can make that money work for YOU, when youre done. He better go buy him some damn Taco Bells or somethin.

I'm happy for him. He didn't give up.

my understanding is that the only thing he's got until he makes the roster is the $117k(roughly 80k net,) now, I would take a check for $80k from you, and that probably looks huge to him, but a one time coupe of 80 grand will not go very far these days, you've got to take the tortoise/hare approach, you're right in that most recent college grads are not grossing $80k, but, assuming he doesn't make the roster, or something catastrophic happens to prevent him from playing, the recent college grad will blow by that $80k in just a few years, and never look back

He will probably make a practice squad if he doesn't make the roster, without injury of course.

practice squad pays decent $ these days, not much of a shelf life though, I wish him all the best

ey is the signing bonus....that is all he really has. NFL contracts are crap outside of the guarantee money. So he really has $117K.....still a good amount of money and can make a lot more if he makes the 53 man roster.

80 G's is not a whole lot of money when that's all you've got, and at this point, he's basically continuing the interview process in hopes of getting the job

If he can make a practice squad he can make 6000 a week just for that.
If you can stay healthy and stay on the practice squad for 3 to 4 years I believe, you're good to go with the nfl pension

nope, does not qualify for a pension, and even though the practice squad pays OK, it's pretty much a week to week gig
