Solid Music Board troll.
To the OP, I'll say for diversity of genre with staying power success, the 90's is probably the best decade for that aspect of the industry.

That is what you call metal?
The 80s is my favorite decade of music personally.

My top 3 decades would be the 70's, 80's, and 20's. Love the jazz from the Harlem Renaissance era.

This was really just a superficial list of popular acts attributed to those genres. Any list of 90s metal without Sepultura is bunk.

You left off:
Opeth
Meshuggah
Strapping Young Lad
I'm sure I could come up with more if I tried, but those are three of the most talented metal bands of any era.

90's was the best for rap
80's was great for everything else.

As far as the 90s are concerned...
Opeth had My Arms, Your Hearse in '98 and Still Life in '99. Morningrise and Orchid weren't nearly up to par.
Meshuggah really wasn't that great in the 90s, Destroy Erase Improve was okay.
Strapping Young Lad has had one good album and it just so happened to be in the 90s, City. Everything else they have done is very mediocre.
I could list many more as well those were just off the top of my head at the time.

The seventies loses points because of disco. I still have my "Disco Sucks" bumper sticker.

That's "almost all the genres."

All I can do is laugh at this given the list you posted.

Nah man, even though the 90's were my formative years, I gotta go with the 80's! As cheesy and lame as some of 80's music may have been, there was a LOT of awesome tunes and no other decade was as unique as the 80's! I personally like synthesizers, and I just like the aura of an 80's song, it's a whole different world than today's music, which is fine with me, because apart from a few songs here and there, the majority of the "Top 40" songs of today are crappola in my opinion!!

Also, the 80's was a much more friendly decade than the 90's, as cheesy as it may have seemed, the music on a wide-scale level was uplifting as opposed to the moody grunge era of the 90's.

Always felt much of the 80's stuff was fluffy party music. I felt the "grunge" era was a breath of fresh air at first.

I can definitely see your point there, as grunge was definitely something completely different than what people had grown accustomed to. I do like some grunge, Alice in Chains in particular.

I liked GnR because they had a darker, more gritty vibe than any of the hair bands.
