Go to the original creditor and talk to them about having it removed.
If that doesn't work send a certified letter to the collection agency or at least get beyond the collector level at the agency, offering a pay for delete. If they don't accept that screw them. A collection derog on your report hurts your score the same if its open or settled or paid. If its a few years old its even better to have it collect dust rather than report a new date of last payment. If they call then ask them to file for judgment. If they don't then send a letter to cease and desist so they stop calling you until it hits the SOL. How much is the bill for?
You can try.. But not sure what Neighbors or Pentagon or the like would do.
The worst thing you can do on 2 year old debt is bring it current even if to mark as paid. The DOLP becomes <1 year and that will typically reset the clock on that collection derog. Her score will drop further.
