I like the guy Matt Armstrong. He just seems like one of those small school linemen that the Saints hit on once they get him some solid coaching. I wouldn't be surprised if he made the squad especially bc of his versatility.

Meh. Payton can bring in a kicker any given day of the week if the ginger starts to faulter.

I'm not. I wanna say that I heard our FO and coaching staff are aware of our current players and needs as a team. So if they didn't do anything to address what you perceive as an area of need, they must be feel decent about it...whether because of who's on our roster, or who we may be able to pick up during cuts.

I really wanted to address Center in this draft, and I think the team did as well, but I can see why it wasn't- the value just didn't match where we were picking. I think Martin was a real possibility for us at 58, but they had SJB higher on the board (judging by how quickly the pick was turned in).

Swanson and Stork both went before our pick in the 4th, so after that I don't think they were reaching on a Center prospect that they didn't like just to grab one.

I thought Bodine might be a real possibility for us, but Cincy grabbed him in the 4th before our pick. I believe they even traded up on the 4th to grab him.

I was pretty disappointed we couldn't land Larsen or Ikard as a UDFA, but I don't think either are a make or break prospect there. My biggest concern with Lelito is him not having taken a regular season snap at Center in college or NFL up until this point. I know he played 2 games at Guard last year, but it's a different game making the protection calls, and snapping the ball. Armstrong looks to have some decent potential, so there's something there. And I'm guessing Goodwin, who should be a decent 1 year stop gap, was always a Plan B, depending how the draft fell.

The Saints under Payton has never been a team to address next year's need in the draft. If you are drafting an obvious need for next year there's still a good chance you will have that same need starting game one. Most players just don't have a huge impact in their first year. It is much better to address your first needs in free agency and get a guy that's ready to go game one. The Saints always draft best pick available, or a guy that has the up-side to be a factor later. The Reggie Bush, Vaccaro, and Cooks picks were the closest I've seen them come to picking an obvious need for the next year, but the last two they were far enough back to have had plenty of options in front of who they got. The cards just fell that way.

They have a contingency in place for Center, I'm willing to bet on that. Brees just can't take the hits he was taking last year and our running game will have to be much better out the gate this year to have a shot in the post-season. If we know this, they know this - if they know this and don't have a plan, then they are stupid. If they are stupid, why are we concerned anyway? Take your hyperventilation bag and cut out some eye-holes and brand it your game-day mask.

I'd rather Hartley than Graham. I'd rather an adequate replacement than either of them, though.

How was the chemistry between Goodwin and Brees? It seems like the Saints are leaving the door open for him to return. Maybe he's sent the message he prefers it here; Payton instead of Harbaugh.

The 9ers cast him out as soon as the season was over. They are moving on. And not many teams are going to touch a 36 year old player. We happen to have need and familiarity with him so his best shot is here(and I believe we were his only visit). If we don't sign him he will likely retire.
