How did Brandon Coleman go as a UDFA?

6'6 225 4.5 40, 33" vert
Seems like he would be worth a late round flier at the least.
This could be the future of our Wr core, cooks and Coleman

He had injuries at Rutgers, but as we saw from our picks from the 4th-6th, but thay shouldn't have stopped him from getting drafted. No idea really. Maybe he interviewed poorly?

If his injury was that he only tore his ACL, he should have gotten drafted.

Athleticism and size, he's off the charts. But that doesn't mean he's a stud.
Is not quick off the line, catches with his body more than hands, struggles to get in and out of his breaks, is stiff, and should have dominated in college based off his size, athleticism and competition, but never did. Nor was he that productive in college. 94 catches for 1800 yards over 3 seasons as a starter.
That said, the potential is most def there. I don't think he plays that much this season, other than goal line situations. But, if he can improve on things like route running, catching with hands instead of body, and being more fluid and comfortable in and out of his breaks, he will be a player. But, it's gonna take some time.
Love the signing

They hope he learns from Closton. If it's that bad for him as a wr put 25 lbs on him and make him a TE

Ya I agree.
But, where they differ is that Colston was a very savvy WR who knew how to use his body to gain position against the defender. He was a really smart WR coming out.
Coleman isnt like that.... yet.

Payton seems to have a program in place for guys like this. I can only imagine the sales pitch:
"Hey- you ever hear of Marques Colston? Jimmy Graham? Yeah? Well, you have more major college experience than either coming out of college. Look what I did for them. But hey, if you think someone else can develop you better, go ahead..."

Not to my knowledge... and his college stats seem to be a WR stat line. He was tipped to play TE in the NFL because of his size.

Colston was a TE then was asked to play wr at the north south senior bowl.
Posted on 5/10/14 at 11:20 pm to 41bengal
I don't think that's right. I'm fairly certain he played wide receiver in college but I could be wrong.

Everything I read it sounds like he was a WR in college, but if he gained much weight he would move to TE.
Posted on 5/10/14 at 11:26 pm to KG5989
Yeah, that's right. He was projected a TE in the NFL due to his size and slow 40 time.

Colston and Graham were good right away.
Tell me one receiver that has come to the Saints and has developed or gotten demonstrably better since arriving here?
Lance Moore?
Graham developed, but we could all see the talent right away.
We'll see if Coleman will be a good one right away.

Are you kidding?
You think Colston was that good in college?
And uh yeah, Moore.
We have no idea how good Graham would have gotten if he had gone somewhere else, but he came here with little more than upside.
We developed him hugely.

quote:Nope. Came into Hofstra weighing a whopping 195. Played the X - Split end... Missed 2004 season due to a shoulder injury, came back in '05 weighing 230...

Blame ESPN and fantasy for the TE thing... he got listed as TE his first year with the Saints... and never again. I don't think he was ever listed on even a pre-season roster as a TE. Always a WR.
and, he played at the East West Shrine Game, not the Senior Bowl.

That's what I heard and seen from everything going into his rookie year. Yes since he stepped foot on in the nfl he has been a wr. But we are getting off subject Coleman could be 1 or 2 things a big wr target or a developmental TE to help Graham

So he's basically a young Kenny Britt without the off field issues?
