He's only been invited to rookie mini camp at this point. Those guys have like a .01% shot at making it

Very slim chance IMO that Cadet is cut. but remember, this is a guy taken in Payton's suspension year and he hung on last year by a thread in the preseason by all reports.
I think Payton warmed up to him more as the year went on, but I'm not convinced he's 100 percent secure.
I think a lot of the 2012 class suffers from that. Like Nick Toon. Corey White actually improved after 2012 but that's about it.
EDIT: Akiem Hicks too

I know Robinson was. So was Josh McManus.

“He’s a guy that can run the routes (Sproles) did,” Payton said of Cadet. “He is a utility player that has gotten better at the core skill set of just being a runner but is very comfortable when it comes to being a receiver out the backfield.”

“We’ve carried and had quite a bit of depth at that position,” Payton said. “We’ve always felt it’s important.”

Cadet did well enough in games and practices to convince Payton he’s a possibility to ease the effects of Sproles’ absence, the coach said. Payton had no qualms declaring that Cadet would have the chance to be more involved in the running, passing and kickoff return games, and he’d contend to field punts full-time.
“With regards to his touches, with regards to his opportunities, Travaris is a guy that played and is now going (to do so more),” Payton said. “He’s someone that’s very comfortable in that role.”

#Saints ST coordinator Greg McMahon said he hates to use word "replace" with Darren Sproles. But said team excited about Travaris Cadet.
There is no way Cadet does not make the team. Sorry folks.

he went from 90% to 50% because of tim flanders apparently

I could see flanders being a jamaal branch
In other words, practice squad next yr at best

Because of Cooks with the added presence of Flanders. He's no longer the special bird with semi Sproles role filling capabilities. With Cooks he's become the red headed step child.
We're keeping 4 HBs no question. And I have no idea if Flanders is good or bad. If he comes in like Ivory, PT, or Robinson did then kiss Cadet goodbye. If he comes in like PJ Hill or Hamilton he hits the PS. If he sucks he's gone.
Not sure how you missed the whole talk about Cooks before unless you're intentionally creating strawmans or trolling.
Edit:
Also Gyno, ALL of that stuff was said before the Cooks pick. And all of it sounds like maybe this maybe that to me.

Didn't miss that at all. Of course Cooks will shoulder some load in the short passing game, but he'll pose little threat out of the backfield because there is no threat there as a runner. You have to be able to keep defenses honest, and a guy like Cadet can do that because they can also mix in the run.
WE have to not only replace Sproles in the short passing game, but Lance Moore as well. I love Cooks but to think he can come in and replace 140 catches is silly.
They still need that receiving threat out the backfield. And even if Flanders can prove to do some of that, he's not going to over take Cadet after 3 offseason's in the system. Practice squad at best.

Some guys(like Cooks) you can project better so you can expect him to have a big role. I don't think anyone has really seen Flanders and know what he is capable of.
He could be the next Robinson or he could be that other guy I don't remember any more. I have zero clue either way.

Lol
You can't "possibly" have the "chance" to "contend" for playing time if you aren't on the roster
Cooks is a WR. Unless he also capable of running the ball 70 times a year, then no, he cannot do what Cadet does. Being able to run the football between the tackles is a huge deal if you want that guy to remain a threat out of the backfield through the air. You said the same shite about mccluster. You are talking about WRs. Everyone else is talking about RB with WR capabilities for that role.

quote:You think Cadet, if he makes it, would sniff 70 carries?
Unless he also capable of running the ball 70 times a year,
Sproles was a much better runner than him and only had 87(2011), 48(2012), and 53(2013) carries in his seasons here.
At best he may get 30. I think Cooks could get 15. Give the other half to Robinson and call it a day. At least they wouldn't be wasted on Cadet and his whole 1 career carry then.
As for McCluster he had 114 carries for 516 yards with a 4.5 ypc one year, so yes he can run the ball. They chose to move him away from that role, despite that being good numbers for a guy his size(mostly because their other back is so damn good that they didn't need him to rush).
And like I said, Payton used all of those terms BEFORE the Cooks selection. You seem to keep forgetting that. I'm not saying he has no shot at the roster, but Cooks puts that in doubt where before he was a near guarantee. That's why you don't start making the roster before the draft and UDFA.

Are you taking jabs at bonethug for being an AC repairman?
Posted on 5/11/14 at 7:35 pm to GynoSandberg
Man looks like I'll have to find a new job!
I haven't worked in AC in about 3 or 4 years now. I hated that shite. Good luck with that Cadet!
Also, I don't know how Gyno knew that....

Awww shite. His chances done dropped again.
People are acting like I'm saying he has no shot now. Don't know why some people like to overstate what I actually say.
