How long should you wait before emailing asking the status of the job? I have interviewed three times and taken an online assessment. My final interview was Tuesday and they stated "I would know something soon"

Wait a week and then send the recruiter a message... "Hey thanks for setting up the interviews blah blah blah, looking forward to hearing more about the process blah blah blah"

Keep it short and sweet

Generally... what type of job / industry is this in? Perhaps, going by your username, a teacher?

You interviewed at three seperate times?

At least in my profession, third interviews are very rare (unless the first one was a BS one with a recruiter).

I would say give it the weekend, on Monday, maybe a brief e-mail just once again thanking them for the opportunity to meet about the posistion.

Employers take their sweet time sometimes. Plus, in this day and age, it's not uncommon for an applicant who was not selected to not ever hear anything back.

For what it's worth, when I was looking for a job upgrade a few months ago, I bought the Manager Tools Interview Series podcasts online for $75 or so.

It was a big help with all of the nuances of the resume, job search, interview, and follow up processes. I didn't do all of their stuff exactly but it was helpful to get in the right frame of mind and not have to stress about the details. I highly recommend it.

Anyway, that sounds like a big commercial but the $75 paid off big time, and this is coming from an experienced professional who has spent time on the other side of the interview and resume screening process.
