It wasn't bad but in today's age political correctness is entrenched in our society and the media loves to keep racism alive so they can use it to beat their opponents(white male conservatives) over the head. The media loves racism also so they can wring their hands and use the incident as a way to jump out, attract attention to themselves and say "See? We are NOT racist! We are better people because of this!"

The media and liberals are obsessed with race. The old racists are rapidly fading and the libs are getting more and more desperate to find cases of racism they can exploit and generate outrage over. In their desperation, expect to see their false accusations and blanket statements to increase. They are ready to panic.
