i don't want to keep my front fixed iron, but i also don't want to dremel that shite off.
Then get the lo-pro gas block. Personally have had a couple shaved down by a professional and it looks good, but you can't have it and flip sights.

i want a flip sight so it doesn't interfere with my magnifier. :(
Are you talking about front and rear flip up sights now? A fixed front sight post wont really interfere with a red dot and magnifier.

Sorry to bump from 2 pages back, but yeah I am going to get a front flip sight to put on the end of my rail, and already have the rear flip sight. my question now is mostly concerning whether i want to shave down my front fixed instead of replacing the gas block.
i think i'm going to go with shaving it down, in spite of it feeling un-natural to ruin a piece of equipment... i want to protect that metal tube you have to bend (i guess attached to the gas block). i have also now seen one that was shaved down very effectively and it looked fine.
what are y'all's thoughts on replacing the crush washer under the flash suppressor instead of just reusing it, AND what are y'all's thoughts on -not- using a torque wrench when putting on the nut at the base of the barrel to make it a free floating barrel?
i myself am pretty conservative thinking and want to buy another crush washer and i suppose buy the right wrench to put the exact torque specs listed.
