not really. the exit speeds from the pitcher and off the bat wont have hardly any effect. maybe the most minuscule amount.


the effect will be on throwing breaking pitches and the drag on balls hit into the outfield.

The extra distance comes from the ball being able to rotate at a faster speed.

Some people might be confused by what "drag" means here. It's not that the ball is smoother so it travels through the air cleaner per se. It's that the ball can hold its backspin (angular velocity) much easier. That spin creates pressure underneath the ball which means it keeps its height for longer resulting in longer distance. (Think of a soccer ball's english when kicked with side spin. This is due to pressure on one side of the ball)
