A sad quandary arises though when the young spender grows old and jealous of those who saved while he spent.

I might add that this particular woman told my wife she would sell her body for money if legal, so there's that.

Yup. Young spender needs to look back at the fun he had or kick himself for fricking up, but either way, can't be jealous of the saver that has more later.
Choices. And neither is necessarily right.
