It's all snout the schools and now it's about changing the status quo.
If they do nothing the public school system in the parish doesn't fill their needs nor is it responsive to their wishes. If they form their own city, they hope to change all that.
The loss of the Mall would certainly hurt their finances, but it wouldn't kill their hopes for an ISD and a better school system.
It's also apparent that the people running city hall care little about solving their education problems and their goals hardly include helping the SG area of the parish.

There's a bill currently going through the State Legislature that would totally overhaul the way the EBR School System is run. The leaders of St. George were asked about that and they basically said 'that's a good bill, but we want our own smaller school district'.
If that's what they want, then fine. But don't act as if there is no effort to fix EBR. Those supporting this have no idea how much their taxes are going to increase. It is reckless and irresponsible to move forward with this with so much unknown.
