I think even a fairly reliable 15%-18% block would change a lot of elections and impact both major parties significantly.
Not all republicans are uncomfortable with Rand Paul.....that's far from the truth. He has an uphill battle for the nomination, but I think a lot of Paul supporters will be pleasantly surprised over the next couple of years. He has a great shot.
Both parties have their useful idiots. Paul has to figure out how to exploit that faction of the republican base without watering his platform down and he has to navigate the inevitable media gauntlet that will come his way as the front runner for the Republican Party. That will happen regardless of who gets the nomination.
Just an observation....but among the republicans I know (regardless of income or age) Rand Paul is almost exclusively the favorite. That was not the case with his dad.

The GOP doesn't need to win the Black vote, they just need to get it back to the 30-50% range of the Eisenhower era.
If they were smart, they would focus on the Hispanic vote. It has much more pliability and a greater impact than the black vote.

quote:I would submit that if the GOP were to get a consistent 20% of the black vote both in National and Statewide elections, it would be electoral catastrophe for the Democrats. That would be a solid shite of 15% of the black vote and the many national and statewide elections would shite on that.
The GOP doesn't need to win the Black vote, they just need to get it back to the 30-50% range of the Eisenhower era.
Moreover, if the shift to 20% happened and was consistent, it would also affect the white vote because let's be blunt, there is at least a sliver of the white vote which is completely tied to white guilt. It may only be 1 or 2%, but that combined with the other shift would be HUGE electorally.
