Have you ever done a religious fast?

This year I'm part of a group of people at our church fasting from communion on today on Maundy Thursday (about 7:00pm) to after the sunrise service on Easter morning (starts at 6:30am).
Drinking calories (we're Southern Baptists so obviously not alcohol ) is okay but eating solid food is not. I have some coconut milk on hand since I don't want to drink a lot of nothing but sugar.
I've fasted twice so far this year for about 30 hours each time and both times were actually calorie-free fasts so I didn't drink any calories other than some fresh lemon juice in my water but this is the first time I'll be going 2.5 days without eating.
Anyone else have any good experiences to share with fasting? Tips?

Never past about 36 hours for Good Friday and the first half of Saturday after, and even then I usually had a little meal in there.

What's the purpose of doing that? Colonoscopy on Monday?

Does that prove you love The Lord?
Or are y'all all just great big ole fatties?

How does that show faith? When you die.. Is the "life review" gonna give you props for starving yourself? Just dumb and sheepish. God made food for a reason. Sustenance.

Jesus took the fish and loaf of bread and blessed them, and fed the crowd of many that came to hear him speak.

he also fasted in the desert for 40 days

And he passed the bread saying "Take, eat. This is my body broken unto you, remember this as often as you eat it."

If God is sitting up there keeping track of people's calories then its no wonder he doesn't have time to solve any major problems

To bring temptation to test himself.

He was looking for a tee time.
All the courses in town were booked.

Temptation is a man made illusion.

No. The Spirit led him there, because suppressing your lower appetites and dying to the flesh will make your spiritual appetites more acute and thereby foster a clearer connection.
He was tempted there, but being tempted to test Himself was not the point of going there. Nobody should walk into situations where temptation is near just to test himself.

He did a heck of a job avoiding temptation then, strolling with Satan and all.

You shouldn't enter into temptation just to test yourself, but you shouldn't run away from it either if you have another legit purpose for doing something.
