He's a defense hawk which naturally runs up against the isolationism and cut spending across the board pubs like Rand.
Quickly reading over it, I see that too. And it falls in line to him leaning Rhino establishment as I first said. I noticed in that article, he addressed Rand's dad as an insipid isolationist. It's clear he didn't like and has a bias against his father, it's possible it's carried over to his son, it seems.

Most likely to point out that someone like Bush or Rubio from a swing state with more electoral votes would better the chances for the GOP to take the White House
Or to infer he's from a small, hick state.. so he must be an uneducated hick.

Y'all like to use that term a lot around here. It's like listening to Mark Levin. And in this case too I don't know exactly the point it is you're trying to make.

If so, is it more likely that carry-over is due to personal vendetta or the fact that the father and son share similar ideological viewpoints with which he disagrees?

Well let's get those faults out there. What are they?
Mr. Stephens covered them quite well.
My major concerns with him are:
1) Lack of executive experience. It's true that the same could be said of Obama, but Obama is a terrible president.
2) He close relationships with racists. I don't believe Rand is racist, quite the opposite actually. But he is far too friendly with people that say outrageously offensive things. I don't believe this would make him a bad president, but it certainly hurts his electability.
3) His supporters. Like his father, I think his supporters will ultimately hurt him far more than help. Look at the idiotic OP for confirmation of this point.

You're giving the writer too little credit. .. to go along with your straw man argument.

Perhaps to infer he may be espousing one thing while his personal and professional connections to certain people may point to something else.

No problem with that on my end.

Only someone from Alabama could possibly think this discredits someone's column.
Just posted his bio. His views are likely a direct result of his upbringing, as anyone's is. How an article is written, often times, exposes their underlying views. Knowing a bit of their background can shed light on the purpose of certain statements made in opinion pieces.
FYI, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, John Roberts and Samuel Alito are all Ivy Leaguers, as well as Bush 41, Bush 43, Mitt Romney, Bobby Jindal and Ted Cruz to name a few. The conservatives in high government go to the same schools that the liberals go to.

Isn't it ironic that the conservative media is so willing to play the race card on the only Republican Presidential prospect who's actually making a good faith effort to reach out to minorities?

Rand has done extensive work to reach out to minorities plus he's on the record for saying how unfair the justice system is to them. Rand is speaking to urban league this summer and was invited by NAACP to do the same.

Thomas was classmates with John Bolton and tried to claim him as a libertarian.

so he's attempting to blast Paul for his lack of experience and sketchy associates?
would this be irony?

Do you really not understand the difference between Obama and Paul? It really doesn't matter whether the double standard is fair or not.

i understand that the media propped him up as a Saviour and the sheeple took it hook, line, and sinker....which was kind of my point
