Under current law, this petition could go on for a decade or more. You can't have that looming over the region like that. There should be a deadline and holding elections costs a lot of tax payer money. That's why they are pushing to have it on the same day as other elections. Pretty cut and dry.

First, I think a year is long enough, and I'd have no problem with supporting a law that said that. However, I have a problem with changing the rules in midstream and I would grandfather all those who started petition drives prior to the law going into effect.

Second, I too think there are too many elections, and it makes sense to economize and cut out all the issue type elections like this one.

However, we just had a BREC election, and the people in charge saw no problem with having that one when no one noticed. The same thing applies to school elections here in EBR and Library elections.

The powers that be "sneak" these elections in so that only the hard core vote.

I would like all such elections be curtailed and the ones we have are the ones where we see members of Congress being voted on, the governor, the mayor, etc. and not just a tax issue or an issue like this.

If I had to guess, I'd say having an isolated BREC election didn't help BREC at all. Seems like the type of people who would make the special effort to go out and vote in an election like are more likely the voters that are fed up with taxation.
