Big Bend is next up for me. When is the best time to go?

I've camped there in May twice and it's already pretty hot. Over 100 by the river, not so bad up in the Chisos basin. I'd say March is probably your best bet. Or maybe October. It's a good national park, pretty much one of a kind. There is less light pollution there than anywhere else in the country so the night skies are incredible. It's about as isolated a place as you can find.

I like isolated. In 2012 we did the White Rim trail in Canyonlands. 3 days of primitive camping in the desert. Once we got down the Schafer trail, it started raining, and they closed the road. We were the only people inside the park. It was awesome.
