I've seen some whacky EBT/SNAP shenanigans in the past, and posted about them here. I saw something just a little while ago that floored me.

I was inline behind a young pregnant woman who started sorting all her crap out on the counter and whipped out some WIC checks. At first I thought, "Well, here we go." She apologized to me twice for taking so long.

I got to looking at what she(taxpayers) was buying. Milk, flour, eggs, sugar, 10# of rice, 10# of white beans, 5# of bologna, 20# of potatoes, onions, salt pork, tea (no soft drinks),
cabbage, lettuce and tomatoes. Nothing processed. No TV dinner stuff.

When she apologized the third time for taking so long, I told her it was refreshing to see a young woman who could cook these days. I was happy to see someone who didn't appear to be working the system.

Awesome. She shouldn't be prosecuted with the ones that do take advantage.

Good to hear about someone not gaming the system, although I'm still frustrated to be subsidizing her growing family.

In pretty sure WIC checks have very specific items that can be purchase a with them, they aren't flexible like SNAP is

i.e. the check itself says "I dozen eggs, 1 pack cheese" etc

I don't know her story but she sounds like someone who needs the help and is embarrassed and proud enough to repay her debts. Zero problems with helping her.

Now that's money better spent IMO. Cooking food with raw product. Outstanding.
