You are trying to create a hypocritical position that I do not hold.
Which half? You quite clearly said earlier that the taxpayers should not be "punished" for the "ineptitude" of these women and their temerity to ... get screwed over by men? So I'm guessing it's not the latter. Is it the former? Do you do Hail Marys every flush as penance for your unjustly coerced sewage system? Were you just too inept to dig your own?
Also, I'm genuinely curious where you're going with this:
quote:What relevance does this have? Why does it matter to you if a mother is 20 vs 45 if she's using benefits responsibly? Or isn't theft theft regardless of age?
How old is she? What does she look like?

Saying that doesn't create a hypocritical position unless I say the women are initiating force by accepting the welfare.

I was curious as to what kind of woman lands a guy that makes $100k a year and then leaves.

Yes, fraud is fraud regardless. But we can't blame the poor for being poor. It's such a complex situation and we have such a knee-jerk reaction based on our own life experiences. I can place blame but that clouds the argument.

I don't know her story but she sounds like someone who needs the help and is embarrassed and proud enough to repay her debts. Zero problems with helping her.

I tell myself that one of the biggest reasons that many people rely on direct transfer payments is because so much market intervention has occurred. Without the meddling in the allocation of resources, these people would probably not have to rely on someone else for basic living essentials.

Anyway , at least with WIC they can only buy certain things, milk, cheese, bread, etc
That must have been why she had everything divided up. I forgot to mention she got generic cereal instead of a name brand. No cigs. No booze. Maybe I felt a bond with her because she was a cheapskate just like I am. It was just heartening to see somebody use public assistance frugally.
I've got no problems giving somebody food. Everyone on this board might hit a rough spot. Section 8 housing and Obamaphones are other matters entirely.
OTOH, I'll never forget the dude who pulled up $526 worth of crab legs and two $25 Porterhouse steaks in two carts, and then shelled out cash for a carton of Marlboros and 3 bottles of wine. After I checked out, I saw him loading his groceries in a brand new F-250. That kind of crap chaps my arse.

I think you meant this as an insult, but then again I'm not gay or a douchebag so...

I know what you meant by this, but I like to think that josh is a swell enough guy that a woman wouldn't leave him.

Ditto. I don't know her story either, but at least she showed some economic acumen. Maybe I was just blown away by someone on public assistance being humble, and not grasping and ungrateful.

You must not be thinking clearly tonight. It's pretty obvious I was complimenting you. No woman would ever want to leave you. Because, you know, you're such a winner and all.....

EBT card for 5 Icees and then into an tricked out, beautiful Comaro.
Seen it all.
Seen it all.

Not sure what you mean. I shop wisely and make sure I always get deals. What I've noticed is how cheaply one can eat if they shop wisely. I'm only referring to groceries, not other living expenses.

Now that's money better spent IMO. Cooking food with raw product. Outstanding.

Let me try to clarify (I'm usually stoned and maybe not completely coherent). I do not hold any enmity towards welfare recipients (at least as a group), because one of the reasons they are reliant on government support is government meddling in the market. Without a large government (or one at all), I think it would be likely that many on the dole would no longer require assisstance.

Truth is, I'd like to see all Louisiana Purchase users have to buy raw product only. Put together a cookbook on how to make biscuits, bread, and the like rather than costing taxpayers more by prepackaged convenience items. They learn to cook better, eat better, and can stretch the dollar more efficiently. Perhaps allow canned fruits, except tomatoes. .

Maybe they would starve. I'm just taking a guess. You are certainly not in the demographic whom I hope to possibly intrigue.

After I have delivered the week's supply of produce for my customers, and have saved a portion for myself and my WWOOFers to eat, I try (though not always successfully) to invite the 'hungry' to the farm for fresh food. If they are able-bodied, I have them work for a little bit and I do what I can to teach them about subsistence agriculture. Those who are unable are free to stop by each week for a meal, as well as a variable portion of the week's harvest.

She struck me as someone who won't choose welfare as a career.
