While I don't agree with the way the FEDs are handling this, the land in question has always been federal land. Mr. Bundy and his family have been grazing their cattle and profiting off of federal land for three generations. They did not purchase the land; they paid fees for the government to support his ranch. Both sides of this are bad big government. They made a living off of basically farm subsidies for three generations. When he didn’t like the way the BLM was using his money he stopped paying the agreed upon fee. So since it was federal land and he was no longer paying the FEDs told him to get off the land. Sorry but the FEDs are right in this even if they are going about it all wrong.
