well it isnt the torque because the definition of torque is the rate of change of angular momentum of an object. the movement on the motor is negligible. So the correct terminology would be "moment".

The fact is that the old outdated "transom saver" actually does more harm than good. The motor is now captive by the power tilt system and can't move away from the shock of the road transfer through the old style device. The lower unit in effect is therefore taking repeated jolts as you trailer over rough roads with bumps and holes, not to mention what happens when the boat and trailer move independently.
Kinetic energy is introduced into your system with the movement (shaking) of the outboard motor bolted to your transom. This energy can only be dissipated through friction, and friction can only develop between moving objects (motor rigging).
Unless your outboard motor is stabilized completely so that NO movement occurs, the kinetic energy will dissipate where the motor moves (the motors tilt and steering pivots), causing stress and wear on the entire system, including the transom.

I remove mine occasionally but rare. Any significant amout of water will pump out and rarely have any. I don't offshore though.

Have Yamaha F250, use the dealer-provided Yamaha branded My-Wedge knockoff. Same dealer gave me same thing for last boat with F150, slide it on the ram and roll out.

I'm guessing if you only own the boat for 5 or so years, youd never realize the difference in either one...

The rest is just utter nonsense.
Look, the devices you and I are using just presents another link to the transom mount. Again, to the transom mount. It doesn't do anything to stop the motor from moving. In fact, we would both be better off not using anything than using these deals because then there may be some play in the system instead of a direct jolt onto the transom.
BTW, do any of the local stores sell the steering clips? Mine both broke.

A second place to stabilize the motor and keep it from wiggling when hitting bumps. Thats all both devices do. If you think it does anything else I would love to hear what it does. It's not there to carry the weight of the foot but keep it from bouncing up and down. Both do this by connecting a second brace to the motor in a second place.

After lots of thinking about this thread, I have concluded the engine should be removed when transporting the boat. Hope this helps....
