Why would he want to be mayor of a new city, with few employees, and a tight budget anyway???

He's not going to be mayor or appoint himself to the council, but it is silly to think there aren't people drooling at the black hole that the city's finances will become.

At least with EBR you know where all the contracts for individual services and whatnot are going. With SG there will be a general contractor who will not need to disclose who they give our money to in order to carry out city services. Opening the gate to more corruption doesn't mean that corruption will happen. It's just a moral hazard and theres politicians have proven they won't be able to resist the temptation.

Really? That's not what Russian says, and we all know he's never wrong.

Did you know the EBRPSB writes contracts to individual companies for most if not all their maintenance work and janitorial work?

Did you know that when they did that they saved money?

Did you know the city contracted out garbage pick up a long time ago and got out of the garbage business and saved money?

It has been proven in a lot of instances that privatizing city, and local services can save money and stretch valuable tax dollars.

Can there be corruption in awarding contracts? Certainly, but not any more corruption than you'd see from local governments who award service contracts to lawyers, engineers, architects, etc.

I do agree that people in govt. have to be watched. That is another good reason for term limits. Keeping the status quo breeds familiarity, and that could lead to problems. I'm with you on that.
