Yeah, just assault rifles, machine guns and give them snipers too.
Snipers would take out the guys shooting cannons and officers. It would be a slaughter

Yeah but if you think of the sheer number of the Union Army. If all they had to do was kill 100 men to win the war they could just swarm the Seals. A lot of Union troops would fall no doubt, but they could be overwhelmed by brute force.
Even with unlimited ammo they'd still have to take time to reload and all that good stuff, the cavalry could get there pretty quick.

Seal shoots his great great grand-pappy and disapears Marty McFly style and now you're down to 9 seals. They'd never make it.

I'm with you. The union army was about 500,000 strong in 1862. NO way 100 seals could do anything remotely effective even with 100 snipers.

after the first officer goes down, you think they aren't going to take cover? Then calvary would out maneuver and flank them holding them down til infantry could move to encircle. Trap them and wait it out.

If the Seals wanted to win they war they'd have to do what they do best. Seal stuff. Clandestine missions, assassinate all the Union generals and such. Could work that way I suppose.

I'm sure they could have quelled the rebels without as much loss of life and property.

And this isn't the American Revolution we're talking about with block formations just standing behind each other firing volleys. You had repeating action weapons emerging, modern use of cavalry.
The K:D ratio would be ridiculous, don't get me wrong, but I truly hope people don't believe 100 seals could win the Civil War

Is this just a logistics of firearms hypothetical, or a time travel hypothetical? If those SEALS killed the wrong ancestors and were never born, then you've got to worry about paradox theory. Would the SEALS cease to exist after altering their past?

was kind of my point with my first post...stupid question...put me in the camp that says the Seals would get overrun by sheer number and force, regardless of weaponry...fighting either side..N or S

I think the more interesting question would be if 100 seals went back in time to fight WITH the confederates, would the north have been beaten. Or fewer

if the Seals could train them on how to do more with less...main reason the South lost was cause of lesser numbers and a decrease in materials as a result of blockade..and the fact that the damned governers and state governments wouldnt get behind Jeff Davis...but that is another thread i suppose...

Because then their infiltration/assassination abilities, abilities to destroy infrastructure, etc, would become a tipping point.

Not a chance in hell, then.
Can't believe I'm the first one to think that. Not even close IMO.
You dont think they would be able to fight a guerrilla war and take out opposing leadership easily? They obviously wouldn't be taking them on, on a standard civil war battle field

That depends... define "all equipment"

Does "standard issue equipment/gear" include Black hawk Helicopters?
