The idea is a great one but w/o massive government subsidies, the cost to ride would not make it economical.
Do we really want to have more tax dollars thrown at something like this ?
You might have more day visitors from NO coming to BTR but you would probably see fewer passengers flying out of BTR because folks would be taking the train to MSY to fly.
Too many variables to make it work !

95 minutes?

It's a decent concept, but for it to take 95 minutes plus the extra 15 on each end getting to and from where you need to go. I mean, who is gonna waste four hours of each day on a train?

I can make it door to door from around Lakeview to Ivars in an hour exactly, not rushing. During the week, BR-->NOLA or vice versa typically takes 1.5hrs and I end up exactly where I want each time. How hard is it to get a faster train? I'd consider it for a 45 minute ride, but a 95 minute trip is out of the question

Who wants to lug around luggage on a light rail though? And would the parking area near the light rail station be safe to leave your car at? Will the station in NOLA be safe to be hanging out with luggage while waiting for transportation to the airport?

If you have traveled in the NE, you know that rail works...but it still is subsidized by the gov't.

BR needs to work to make all their public transportation better for a light rail to ever work.

The same people bitching about the bus routes being too close to their precious neighborhoods are some of the same ones that think a light rail sounds cool.

This rail will never pay for itself and will cost tax payers too much money. BR isn't a destination many people want to travel to anyway.

I would imagine very few ppl actually ride the whole way. Most people would ride from BR to the suburbs, from NOLA to the suburbs.

It is a waste of money IMO but a good concept.

It's far more socially acceptable in the N.E. Public transport is a hard sell in the South. There'd be a dozen "Trashy" or "Not Trashy" threads on the OT the first day it operated.

I think those are the biggest concerns. I used to take the max in Portland to the airport so carrying luggage never bothered me. So did many others. Cost 2.50 and avoided paying parking. Quite a few people took advantage of it but Portland also has a very good public transportation system and is pretty safe.

If BR traffic gets much worse I bet ppl would consider it.
