Why is that terrible?

Because this is Louisiana and typically it's 90+ at that time. It shouldn't be this year, but it has been in previous years. Miserable experience for everyone involved and most leave shortly after the game starts. I went a couple years ago and my wife and kids had to go down at halftime because they were burned to a crisp.

there is more to the day than the game. After the game the players and their families go to a meal, usually a BBQ, and interact with the coaching staff. The staff use this as a good will gesture and a get to know some of the family members they have not previoulsy met. This is a 4-5 hour event by itself, and to get it started by mid afternoon, the game must be earlier.

I've missed 1 spring game in the past 6 years. Heat was never a problem and it's not hard to put sunscreen on when you know you'll be out in the sun for more than a couple hours.
