Likely true. The problem for some of these old non-profits is if they get a negative reputation in the community. If private payors are choosing to go to other hospitals and take elective procedures in smaller, nicer surgery centers then the old mainstay is left serving the poor or uninsured. Anyone with means is choosing a better or, at least, perceived to be better quality of care.

eta: the success of the smaller surgery center that offers ownership to successful area docs is also hurting the old mainstay traditional acute care hospitals.

Which is what is happening in Baton Rouge these days for the Lady of the Lake hospital.

Some doctors have started refusing to admit their patients there unless the patient is a medicaid patient.
