the officer suspects the driver of being intoxicated
for not using a blinker when switching lanes?
I guess he should be pulling over 90% of BR drivers then for suspicion of DUI

Do you think when a person gets pulled over for a traffic violation, the occupants of the vehicle can just exit the vehicle and just walk around? Serious question.
as long as you aren't breaking any laws, sure.

Wow
What happens when the officer is writing the citation? Where are the occupants?

Which means you know what cops do and get away with, not what will hold up in court. These are two very different things.
Reference stop and frisk. No convictions because the stops were bullshite.

The no turn signal is the reason for the stop.
Odor of an alcoholic beverage, slurred speech, glassy and/or droopy eyes, etc... creates the suspicion of being impaired.

Please answer my last question. I would love to see your answer.

if they aren't being charged with anything, they don't have to stick around.

I dont know Jarrett personally but I have corresponded with him about legal issues in the past. Seems like a good guy. But this is a police state and we all must behave accordingly.

and you are breaking the law if you disobey a cop. it says right here in statute 329.1.5 (c)

What about the driver? This person is an occupant.

I got a Public Intoxication summons a few years back when I walked home from the bar instead of driving at 2am on St. Patricks Day. All of my friends were drunk, I wouldn't have been able to put my keys in the door much less start the damn truck, yet still got slapped with a ticket. Hammond PD can kiss my nuts on that one.

My curiosity wonders what would happen if we take this same scenario and modify it a bit.
Cop pulls over vehicle for "improper lane change." Gets to vehicle and sees a woman driver and passenger who appears intoxicated. Cop asks for DL, insurance, and registration. Officer begins questioning if anyone has been drinking. Passenger starts giving legal advice in an extremely obnoxious tone.
Officer then realizes passenger is the judge. Or mayor. Or Chief of Police. Think the story ends the same?
