um, the congo wasn't too much worse than what was happening in the other colonies, it was just of a grander scale. I read Leopold's Ghosts and at the back of the book, they give some figures of other European African colonies. They all wiped out at least half the populations. And also, they're the direct cause for many of the conflicts today. I'm not an anti-colony guy for the most part, but it without a doubt did not benefit Africa 1000%. There is no way you could really argue that it did.
