Not in my opinion, it's just the cult of personality.

I agree...the problem is that we are plagued with people who want to be leaders who possess common sense when what we need are unique people with uncommon sense. Making the president look like a normal guy makes people comfortable but it is, in my opinion, insulting.

I have a friend who complains about the fact that the president doesn't change the oil in his car. WTF??? First of, who does anymore.....Jiffy Lube will do it for the price of the oil and the filter. But that isnt the point....do we really need the leader of the free world laying under a car under a tree on the whitehouse lawn changing the oil in his limo???? I don't want a normal guy for president...I want an abnormal guy with superior intellect and an unflappable character who is able to listen to people who are experts in their field and change his (or her mind) when they are wrong. We haven't had that guy in MANY, MANY, MANY years.....maybe since Harry Truman.....

I wish you great luck with that. Let's break that down-Skip Obama, skip Bush-Clinton had a superior intellect and an abysmal character, skip Bush, Reagan has unflappable character, skip Carter, skip Ford, skip Nixon, REALLY skip LBJ,....

Using that criteria we may have to wait 75 years between guys who meet your criteria. No knocking you, just saying.

I'd settle for Unflappable Character, and an Intelligence noted for curiosity, flexibility and a respect for history, human nature, and emotional intelligence. That's what Reagan had, and maybe Kennedy as well. I don't require a Mensa member, I'd prefer a man of great intuitive intelligence about how human beings behave and what motivates them .To get more specific, an emotionally intelligent President who understand how human action and economics are intertwined. That's what we need now. Not a ideologue motivated by Marxist assumptions about wealth, class and race.
