Either way, your desire to down play Anthony Davis turning into a legit scorer at 21 is quite impressive.
I'm not downplaying anything. He is arguably one of my favorite players in the league. I watched every game he played at Kentucky and could tell he had a good looking jumper, so it isn't a surprise to me that he has added it to his game.
I really don't understand why you are getting so defensive about this.
And that draft express thing you posted basically agreed with me.
quote:
His shooting mechanics are not bad, and the fact that he converts 71% of his free throws leaves room for optimism
This is pretty much exactly what I said earlier.

If an opposing defense can force him to take a jump-shot, put the ball on the floor, or attempt to score in a post up situation, they have a more than three times better chance of stopping him than if he simply catches the ball in the paint in position to finish.
This may be one of the bigger "no shite" things I have ever read. Of course you are gonna have a better chance of stopping a 6'10" guy with super long arms from scoring if you force him to take a jump shot or put it on the floor than him catching it around the rim.

You are acting like what Davis is doing on offense is expected for him at 21.
It wasn't. It isn't.
Aside from the high school guard premise, sure.
Everyone knew he had the tools to be a good shooter. So do lots of guys that never learn how to shoot. No one expected him to do it this fast. And he's not just a spot up shooter. He's pulling up, he's turning and facing, he's posting up. This type of versatility was not expected now, and for some analysts ever.
He's shooting better from mid range than LaMarcus Aldridge this season. He shot 29% from mid range last year. You saw that happening? Serge Ibaka has a nice jumper too. He can't do what Davis does on offense.
Again, no one saw this type of ability and production in year 2 of his NBA career. It is crazy how good he's been and even crazier to think how much better he can still get.
Let's celebrate a wholly unique player exceeding expectations instead of "ho hum who didn't see that one coming"
